Wright State winning at Southern Illinois is a really good win for the league. Unfortunately UIC losing @ San Francisco is just as bad.
Overall I'd call the day a scratch for the league. Excited to start watching these teams play.

Overall the HL is off to a good start. I've been saying it repeatedly and maybe I'll look stupid in the end, but I just don't believe Valpo will be as good as people have been saying. They have STRUGGLED this year and were down 9 at the half yesterday. With no real point guard, a lack of rim protection and a new coach it's going to be an average year.

I know SIU isn't what they were in the mid-2000s, but that road win by WSU is impressive given the players they lost, new coach, new style of play. Amazing to look at a WSU box score and see 85 points and a really short bench. They had two guys score 26+. To put that in perspective they've only had 15 instances of a player scoring 26+ since 2010-11. That's an average of roughly two games per year a player scored 26+, so they met that quota in the first game! Love Coach Nagy and hope it is the start of a good run for that program. The OU-SoDakState games were always fun.
Great win for YSU as well. Impressive start.

I'm not really a fan of all-offense, little defense kind of games but even I have to admit the OU-SDSU matchups with Kampe against Nagy were a treat to watch. Especially during the Nate Wolters years.

Just looking over Valpo's box scores they have absolutely no depth at all. In a game against a Division 3 team they had five players play more than 30 minutes and only one bench player get double digit minutes. Smits, a 7'2' RS freshman who was very highly touted has only got nine minutes total this year. Hammink and Peters are the only players who can create their own shot. They've turned the ball over a ton. I'm probably a litter higher on Valpo than you, but they certainly are not going to be as good as last year. Still the favorite in my mind, just much closer to Green Bay/us than I would have thought.

Another night, another Wright State game with 80+ points and a win. Mark Alstork followed up his 30 point effort at SIU with a 29 point effort tonight. He also had 10 boards and 8 assists. Nagy is unleashing these guys and it appears to be leading to fun and big numbers. Can't wait to see these guys.
