The Feb 10th game at Calihan definitely increased in importance. Sick to my stomach but have to give Mercy College props.

Inexcusable. Can't say anything else without regretting it later.

We got beat...and Jaleel was a beast.
Just watched Coach's postgame - and I was happy to hear someone ask the ? about why we didn't double Jaleel more. I was thinking the same thing. The one time SDW came down and doubled on him late in the 2nd, he turned it over. I wouldn't be surprised to see doubles on Hogan in certain situations at Mercy next time around.
That's all I got...like ouguy, I will refrain from saying anything else and move onto CSU.

Most good teams experience a bad loss during the year unfortunately it was to the main rival. Not many 2nd half adjustments given Hogan was a beast the entire game and turnovers against the press and trapping zone were a problem the entire game. Coach Kampe said minimal adjustments because we were winning which in hindsight can always be second guessed as all coaches have to deal with it. At the end of the day they were the better team tonight. You never know it may end up being a good loss for the team and also for some on this board who may get a little ahead of themselves in assessing their team and other teams. After watching Detroit in all there conference games there (4) decent to good players are finally being put in a place that can succeed and be a semi-competitive team. Green Bay has also been playing well and the league regular season will be a battle. Hopefully we build on it and move forward. I would expect Coach Kampe to use it as a learning building block.

As disappointing and frustrating as this loss is, I am going to channel our coach and exude class here. There are a few asinine Detroit fans who to this day think Kampe is not classy, but the guy exuded class tonight in defeat (as he always does), from the hand-shake line to the press conference.
Bacari Alexander did too. I have to give him and Detroit a ton of credit. They instituted a press two weeks ago according to their coach, and in the last three Horizon games they are turning over opponents on 29% of their possessions. So one out of three possessions they are forcing a turnover. That's awesome for a team that just instituted this new style and evidence of great coaching and execution. They made our usually very careful guards look very careless tonight.
I'm bummed those Detroit fans get bragging rights right now, but our team has been too good for too many games to think our team will be derailed from its championship hopes. We learned tonight that we can't play like the OU of old (fast-paced and free-wheeling) and expect to dominate. We learned we need to dictate pace and not have it dictated at us.
What a great atmosphere tonight. I am sure it looked great on TV. You also have to tip the cap to the Detroit fans who crowded the section behind the Detroit bench. They were loud and cheering at all the right times. We need to return the favor at their place.

Agree with trying to dictate pace as Coach Kampe stated as we played fast in the 1st half. But in the 2nd half we weren't necessarily playing too fast as we couldn't break the press and if we did break it we did not have a scheme or composure to attach the trapping press. So with Green Bay playing the same way as Detroit we are going to need to make some specific adjustments or scheme changes to allow us to play slower (more than just a mind set).

Here's my story on tonight's game if you care to read. Some not included thoughts: -Not sure why it sticks out since there was plenty of time left to atone, but Xavier attacking two upright players from between the free-throw line and the half-circle with an option on the right wing with about six minutes left was ill-advised, I don't think he re-entered the game after being subbed out shortly after. Just a lot of oops moments down the stretch on a night when the 3-pointers weren't falling. -In the press conference, Kampe talked about why Stevie saw so little PT down the stretch. Four assists and 10 turnovers -- 6:14 TO/A if you include Nick -- isn't enough. A true freshman gets a pass in a game like this, but I still got the feeling that while you can praise Detroit's method, Bacari talked about how at the end of the day, you live and die by performances like Hogan's. The guards needed to do more. -Can anyone remember a better big-man performance by an opponent at the O'rena? I'd have to think back. -Kampe said Brock tried to play through what appeared to be a hip pointer suffered at the free-throw line. Hopefully some of those students who showed up tonight come back. I think the crowd was a great combination of the best Grizz Gang showing ever, and alumni charged up from not only the Georgia win and the rivalry but of the promise of this team delivering. I think Northern Kentucky is a pretty good team, and winning the next three games would help erase the sting, mostly.

Also, they could be the Pistons.

OU has not handled the different forms of pressure defenses the last (2) games. Coach Kampe at the beginning of the season said we had one true point guard on the team whom is a freshman. Neely has performed relatively well and is going to be (and is already starting to be) a good to very good player in his career. It will be interesting to see what coaching adjustments are made going forward. While a few on this board will look and say Cleveland State is not a competitive team at 1-4 in the conference they were in and could have won all of these games including a one point game to league leading Green Bay. Obviously OU is much more talented but that is why they play the game. Now that we are back to being out of the top 100 in the RPI the fans can focus now on Joe Louis arena. Using the next 13 games to try and offset our inherent weakness and further exploit our strengths should be very interesting. I could care less about tournament seeding. We are 1-5 in the last (5) years in tournament play and most of the losses were against lower seeded teams. Before that time we were very good in tournament play so these things run in cycles. I am sure Coach Kampe will reassess and move forward to make this team be as good as they can be which includes developing Neely. Fan expectations should be reset as the early season schedule was a little misleading. March will be the true measuring stick.
