It's that "special" time of the season again. That time where we face off once again against the hated, delusional, and out of touch with reality school down I-75 in Detroit Mercy. To say Mercy stinks would be an understatement. 17 games into the season and you only have 1 Div-1 win to show on your record. There are no words to adequately describe how pathetic that is. I have watched several of their games and they have had several opportunities to get wins. Even with all that said this still isn't a team for our guys to take lightly or overlook. I don't think we have to worry much. Kampe and the staff will keep this team grounded and any chance he can get to stick it to Mercy he is going to take it no matter how good or bad they are.
There is some talent on this Mercy roster albeit it is mostly young and inexperienced. They did compete hard at Valpo this past weekend and fought back to give themselves a legit shot at the upset with only a minute left before losing 81-74. The titans have a trio of scorers that do what little they can to keep them in games. Corey Allen is arguably their most complete player averaging 12.3 ppg. Josh McFolley, Jaleel Hogan, and Chris Jenkins round out the double digit scoring for the Titans. Mercy scores about 74 point a game on average but gives up a whopping 84.5 for a -10.6 point differential. Crazy how this program used to be known for their defense not too long ago and now it's OU that's become a defensive stalwart. They look to be out-everything in nearly every statistical category. They are being outrebounded at a -5.1 rebounding margin and average about 14.6 turnovers a game. They are however able to force a lot of turnovers themselves and forced over 20 at Valpo especially in the latter stages of the game to give themselves a chance. OU has to really value the ball Friday night. If they play too fast or get sloppy it could be an advantage for Mercy.
If the guys are locked in for this game and there is NO reason that they shouldn't be then personally I don't think this will be close. I could see it getting really ugly. However Mercy despite their record has been battling in many of their games and you would think they will be fired up for this one so if the guys aren't ready Mercy will give them a serious game and give themselves a chance at a huge upset. Cannot let that happen. I want to see them trounced on national television.
