Not sure how this team is going to look once the games get started in November but still happy to see some Grizzly basketball get under way. Hopefully NO injuries which is the obvious regarding this exhibition games but definitely want to see how some of these younger players mesh with the veterans that we have on this squad. It feels like it's been a while to see 3 and 4 year players on this team.

This year's team appears to be definitely flying under the radar when it comes to a lot of preseason Horizon League predictions. I would think most of that would stem from the departure of Jalen Moore along with a lot of additions to the roster this offseason, most of them being JUCOs with the exception of Jack Golhke (DII) and Xavier Banks (HS), thus creating a large unknown factor to much of the rotation and roster. This team to me is very similar to the team back in 2016-2017 (the year after Kay Felder left for the NBA draft) that went on to be Horizon League regular season champions along with winning a game in the NIT. The main difference being that team still had a few more established, high-production returning players such as Jalen Hayes, Martez Walker and Sherron Dorsey-Walker, but the point I'm making is that team was able to perform at a high level and succeed with having a more collective, balanced approach that spread out scoring rather than relying on one superstar to carry most of the load, which is I believe how the team will play this season. I fully expect Trey Townsend to take the next step and handle most of the scoring load, but a player I'm thinking will have a huge uptick in production and breakout this season is Chris Conway. Every year Conway has shown improvement and now being a "Junior" (this is really his 4th at Oakland due to Covid classification), he seems very much poised to take that huge leap that most big men seem to make at this point in their careers at Oakland. To me, the point guard position seems to be the biggest concern/question mark. Will Rocket Watts play there this year or will it be more of Tone Hunter who was brought in to be the starting point guard but offseason injuries have slowed him down a bit, or maybe a timeshare between the two of them? Once we see the team in more game action in these next two exhibition games we will get more of a glimpse of how this team looks and how they will play, but I think this team is being slept on in the preseason by many and if most of the additions prove to be key contributors and returning players continue to make strides this year, they should be in the conversation as being one of the Top 4-5 teams in the league at the minimum, if not more.

Agree with Conway. If he can continue to improve the way he has in the past year it would really help with frontcourt production. Rebounds is a hot button issue for me.

The post-Felder team was stacked! Xavier Hill Mais was coming off the bench until Hayes's gruesome injury. We had so many weapons and at least 5 of those guys became pros (overseas). That team also had several highmajor transfers. I think they were much more experienced overall, and certainly a balanced team. I too am looking forward to seeing Conway taking another step forward. And I am curious about all the new faces. Season starts this week!

Hopefully rebounding is improved over last year with the additions of Buru Naivalurua and Aundre Polk as they should provide some added size and athleticism. In general, I feel like this team as a whole is more athletic than last year's team and maybe some of the new guard/perimeter additions can help in the rebounding department as well. Osei Price is another player that has the potential to make the next step, effective on both ends of the floor and could become a huge piece being the 6th man off the bench. Will be curious to see if Rocket Watts improves at all from last year too, he was somewhat of a large disappointment being a high major transfer and a very highly touted recruit out of high school. Maybe there is some extra motivation of this being his last year of eligibility and wanting to show he can play at the professional level, wherever that might be.

Losing at home to a D2 squad is never a good thing. I didn't see the game or listen to it. Its certainly humbling. This may be a very long season...Hopefully we can improve alot in a short time.

Listened to a fair amount of the game on WXOU. Oakland didn’t just lose to a D2 school, they were outplayed. Does it matter in the long run of this season? Probably not. It just shows that a collection of good players doesn’t necessarily translate to a good team. Not unfair to expect more, but time will tell.
Also, is it shocking that yet another player from the opposition has a career night shooting 3s?
