This is it. I tried to look at this autobid thing from every possible angle and attempted to cover my tracks with the appropriate definitions, news releases, links, etc, etc. Hopefully it passes the test. grizzliesgameplan.blogspot.com/2010/11/suus-departure-and-future-of-summit.htmlI don't think I will do anything more on this issue lol. It is really taxing on the brain and there is this huge fear of possibly being wrong or misinterpreting a guideline/bylaw. So many factors.

The Dakota message boards are going absolutely nuts right now. USD announced they'd have a presser tomorrow at noon to announce conference affiliation. Well it looks like they are going to stick in the Summit League after all.
I guess a local TV station was first to report it (not online yet) and the paper over there has the story but was appropriately awaiting a second confirmation. The reason this was able to happen apparently was because the stingy Missouri Valley Football Conference opened up to USD becoming its 10th member. If this is true, what a move by the MVFC!
Good for the Summit League to have another Dakota school and a ninth member. I still stand behind my blog post that we have to add a 7th core member still, unless the NCAA bylaws change, which is something everyone seems to be overlooking.

Yep it was on our local sports tonight and our beat writer confirmed it on twitter...
Good for the Summit, we are in great shape with nine. Bring in UALR and we'd have a nice looking 10 team conference....

It is amazing what a difference a few days can make, it wasn't too long ago that were worrying about the Summit's future.

it wasn't too long ago that were worrying about the Summit's future. If we add UALR, then yes we are okay. But we have to find one more "core" member to add or else the auto-bid is in jeopardy. The only reason people over in the Dakotas aren't talking about this is because the same reporter said: "Legislation on the books upcoming in the NCAA is to get rid of the six schools together for five years rule. All the shakeup in the major conferences is being cited as one reason. The new rule will simply require seven active members."But he did not give a single source or where he got that info from, when it might happen, etc. Not even like, "I called the NCAA..." or "Summit League officials told me..." or "According to...." I just have beef with that. And no timetable was given.

Amazing! I am glad someone finally just provided the appropriate link. Thanks for the link to the official report from Kolpack. That eases my worry about the earlier referenced post. Only one mention of AQ in that NCAA document, but it looks good for us. Core. A multisport conference that is recognized in the NCAA Governance Structure as a result of legislation [see No. 9 above] shall be considered a core conference. A core conference shall: (3) Be eligible to receive AQ into NCAA championships, provided the conference competes with a minimum of six active participants in the sport. This line is is our lifesaver or so it appears.

I'm curious about your fascination with the UALR program. Why do you think they would leave the SunBelt for the Summit?

Well considering the fact that they are a basketball school in a conference in which most schools have football. They are a natural travel partner with ORU, and I believe someone mentioned that they are unhappy and would like to leave.
I also think if Chi St. turned things around they would be an attractive option, but I am not entirely well versed as to why the Summit doesn't like them so much.
