First official game of the season!! ;D. A late Friday night thriller. Will be listening to Mario and Neal and hopefully channelsurfing.com will have the game listed otherwise you have to be an ESPN 360 subscriber in order to view the game.
Black & Gold provided an excellent analysis of the game regarding matchups and what needs to be done and I agree with it. Have to make sure the three is falling because that will be needed as well as rebounding on both ends.

As I posted in the comments section on the Gameplan, Kevin Jones is a major concern (stating the obvious). According to the Blue Ribbon yearbook, Huggins has said "He [Jones] came in at 215 and now he's at 255 and his body fat is down." That kind of chiseled presence in the paint will be tough to handle for either Benson or Hudson, not to mention their other weapons.
That said, I think we'll keep it close. Not sure I'd predict an upset, but I would be suprised if this game wasn't at least competetive.

Great to see the first official game thread! Look forward to chatting about the game as it goes on tomorrow night. I totally agree with you about Kevin Jones, Germane. I watched WVU quite a bit last year and always remember him being solid but never really getting the spotlight. He kind of fits that mold of WVU players who can do a ton of different things whether it's in the paint, mid-range, or on the perimeter. Should be interesting to see who guards him. Couple of links for ya'll. First, my game preview: grizzliesgameplan.blogspot.com/2010/11/game-preview-oakland-at-west-virginia.htmlThe Oakland Press' coverage: www.theoaklandpress.com/articles/2010/11/11/sports/college/doc4cdc611fa12c1862300158.txtFinally, a nice little anecdote I read on some subpage of the Mountaineers website: Sports Information Director Bryan Messerly tells me five NBA scouts will be in attendance for Friday’s West Virginia-Oakland game to get a look at the Golden Grizzlies’ senior center Keith Benson. Last year, Benson averaged 17.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game to earn Summit League MVP honors. Against Pitt in the first round of last year’s NCAA tournament Benson scored 28 points and grabbed nine boards against the Panthers. Sure is starting quickly for Benson. He'll be under the microscope in most of these non-conference games. I just want somehow for the team to be successful while Benson still looks good and gets his numbers. I know those two things typically go hand-in-hand, but just saying.

Great to see the first game thread of the year. I think we have a chance in this game. If WVU comes out rusty, and we are draining the 3 ball I think good things can happen for us.

Here's hoping to starting the season off with a bang! It will be interesting to see how much our team has come together now that the season is underway officially and they start off with a very tough opponent in WV. As long as the game is competitive and Oakland fights until the end I will be happy with the results.... also hoping that Kito has a Kansas like game against Jones so the scouts have a positive vibe right off the bat.
GO GRIZZLIES!

I think it will be interesting to see what approach Kampe comes out with to start the game. I wonder if he will show this fast paced offense that he speaks of, or will he go back to the slow paced offense making them play our game. I think if we play slow paced, but move fast in transition off rebounds and turnovers, we can set the pace and be effective. Is it 9pm yet? I can't wait 11 more hours for this game!!!

So stoked for this game! I know we will have a bunch of people in our apartment watching the game on a big screen connected to espn3.com (thank you HDMI cable).
I always think of upsets like treading water: stay up as long you can. We need to stay with them and not let them pull away. Keep thing close all game and hopefully pull away in the end. I'm not terribly optimistic, but unbearably excited!
