3 players fouled out.... Looks like Petros going to come in?? This probably won't make Kampe happy...

If we keep fouling out a player per minute, we're gonna see Ilija running the point in a second for us!

We had two guards kept out of the starting lineup for being late for the team bus (Hamilton and Eackles) and we've had 3 guards foul out so far (Hamilton, Eackles, Wright). Frustrating.

So 3 guys fouled out, and Petros didn't play. IMO I think Maynard will be back on the team soon. If he weren't I'd think Kampe would play Petros.
All in all, our boys looked rusty. Hopefully they learned from their mistakes and get a victory over Ohio.
BTW, I'm liking Bader more and more. Poor man Kangas here we come!

After the game, Kampe told Mario and Neal that he was actually happy (sort of) with what happened. I'm not. I understand what Kampe means, and I'll probably be less frustrated tomorrow, but I expected us to play WVU much closer than this.
I liked a lot of things we did last year, but I don't think I can stand us getting blown out by all the high majors we face this year.

Brutal loss, I am so terribly disappointed with our guard play.

My grading:
Larry Wright: D I am pretty disappointed in Wright. I have been a big supporter of him and though he just had to get in a groove. I was really hoping he would step up, especially being a big east game, but he didnt seem to be aggressive at all.
Benson: B Kito played well, but he seemed to miss a few medium difficulty shots that he tends to make, but still a solid game. I did really like that he dribbled the ball out on some fast breaks, it shows his athleticism.
Bader: B He was fairly impressive for his first game, its nice to see someone hit 3's and he didnt seem tentative. His defense needs a little bit of work though.
Will Hudson: A I really like what I saw from him. He seemed so much more confident offensively. And he didnt commit a ton of stupid defensive fouls. very impressed with him.
Reggie Hamilton: C+ I think he played the best of the guards and I think he looks the most like a real point guard with Bass being a freshman and injured.
Bass: D He is still recovering, so I dont really want to dig to deep into his play.
Ledrick: C+ I liked his play and aggressiveness, of course a little too aggressive since he fouled out. He just didnt seem to have shots fall.

Coach Kampe was very positive in his post-game interview with Mario and Neal. He sees the bigger picture for this team, which as fans it is hard to do. I would have loved to keep it within 10 and be happy with that result. Benson had big stats but I was a little bummed at his three-point attempt and a couple of his mid-range jumpers that just seemed a bit rushed. Even if the stats show differently (which I don't think they do), I thought all three guards were kind of miserable tonight. Hopefully they'll get it together, especially Ledrick. Hats off to Bader for his offensive confidence. Hudson was solid. Benson's numbers were good but he did have some flashes where I was reminded just how great he is. Need to get some more guys to help with rebounds aside from Hudson and Benson. Valentine is good at that but the guards need to step up in that department as well a bit more. Here's a link to some audio of Kampe after the game. I wouldn't click anything but the "play" button on the little windows media box, lots of ads on that page: www.zshare.net/audio/82658763fa29e97f/

This game was a mixed bag for me. I was disappointed we let the game get out of hand towards the end of the first half, and I was disappointed we couldn't pull within 15 in the second half. I was also VERY disappointed with the guards. Like I said after watching Larry against Rochester, I have little trust in his ability to run our offense right now. He plays slow, which could be good at times, but it kills our momentum and any ability to get the opposing team off balance. I don't care about his points or his stats, which is how I felt about JJ, as long as he can run the offense.
That being said, I like our bigs a lot. Getting into the Summit League, the one-two punch of Benson and Hudson will probably win us a lot of games. Who in the Summit is going to stop these two? We need to continue to run our offense into them and allow for the occasional kick out. I hate seeing the guards passing it around the perimeter for 30 seconds just asking for the ball to be stolen.
And for the biggest surprise, our man Bader. What a game! To play his first ever collegiate game at that level on this stage was huge. He had a great hustle and he hit some shots. I'm excited to see him keep getting minutes, especially in the Summit games.
This may be considered selfish, but is it too much to ask for Benson to get a double-double in every single game this year? That would be an awesome feat.
