Indeed since we already have club teams. I know there's a big difference between club and varsity but at least we do have teams in place to build off on.

Awesome news! I had no idea Konya & Co was considering adding hockey. I'm interested to see how the path to being D1 will be. Does it begin at a lower level 1st? Or are we instantly thrusted into D1 out of the gate. Im not as knowledgeable about college hockey but I'm more curious now.

D2 hockey barely exists and NCAA D3 hockey is a step down from ACHA D1 if you ask me. We'd better be looking at going Division 1 if we're bothering to look at all.
I probably went to more hockey games as a student than I did basketball games. Hopefully, part of the feasibility study is finding a better location for the games. Are they still playing in that weird arena in the middle of nowhere?

It would be awesome for college hockey to be at Oakland. However, I can't imagine the study would show hockey programs would be feasible, unless you had the backing of the Red Wings and/or major donors, committed to funding the program for years. To me, it doesn't make sense to take money out of the athletic budget from other programs to fund this (expensive) one and I can't imagine OU adding more money to the budget. How many people does the Onyx seat? I also can't imagine the WCHA excited to add a program with a 500 seat arena. And how much student support would you get off-campus? You almost have to build a new arena for this to happen. You can't play at LCA since most hockey games are Fridays and Saturdays. I guess it has the advantage of being a stone's throw from Ontario, but all the Michigan programs are essentially stone's throws away too. What do the club teams get for attendance? I would triple that for what you'd expect to get for a D-I team. I would definitely go to D-I games, but there's a 1% chance I'd go to a club team game. The other advantage is that it's probably the only chance OU has to play for a national championship. With only 40-or so programs and computer formulas to select the NCAA Tournament field, it's definitely within the possibility. I also think they would have to be Division I programs. D-II and D-III schools can play D-I, but I don't think the reverse is true. Lots of "can't imagine"s from me in this post. I hate to be so negative about this (or anything), but on the surface, it doesn't seem feasible. BUT, it's definitely more feasible than football

In turn, OU would rent the facilities out to create revenue and help the operating costs of an ice arena.

Umm.. question:
Why build a new arena for hockey? What's wrong with Orena and build a new basketball facility?

Umm.. question: Why build a new arena for hockey? What's wrong with Orena and build a new basketball facility? I actually really like this idea. Unfortunately though, I doubt the NHL/Red Wings would be willing to pay out money to help Oakland build a new basketball arena so that the hockey team could have the old arena.

I don't think a rink would fit in the O'rena, right? If it did, it would look like Ferris St's arena...
