I truly appreciate all of the raw emotion and feedback I see here from last night and today. We're all invested in this brand and want it to succeed to heights never seen before. Jeff Konya and team will get this Athletic department there, believe me. I think you've seen thus far in Jeff's first 1.5, almost 2, year tenure is how he's totally transformed the culture to be more forward thinking, brand conscious and even implemented process excellence initiatives. Now, nobody supports this program more than myself in regards to time, effort, social media exposure and overall supporter of Oakland University/Athletics. I'm going to take a different approach to this loss and take the emotion out of it, not that it's an easy thing to do by any means. In regards to the crowd, we also have to realize that a game on a day where students and working adults go back to school/work after the holidays is generally very lethargic, historically speaking. I want to praise the people and the Grizz gang/band/dj/others that came out and supported their team when they could've easily stayed at home and watched on one of many tv/radio outlets. Also, Kay Felder and this team has generated a lot of "New" interest from fans of college basketball that wouldn't have normally turned out to watch an Oakland game. We need to lead by example and set the tone for how we expect the fans to act. One example, during the "Fight, Fight, Fight for Oakland" everyone should stand and clap along and show others this is Oakland Athletics and this is the expectation. It will start small but that's how cultures generally do start and will grow accordingly. This is a partnership with the team and when the team plays a league game as if this is an exhibition then it's on them and the coaches. Fans can only do so much. But it does take two. The fans spark extra motivation when the players have exerted all energy and have no more but reach deep down and find that they do have that little more to achieve greater. And the players have a knack for making the plays necessary to get the fans in the game. I was at the MSU game and the MSU fans came alive after MSU's big run to put them ahead towards the end of the game and into overtime. This is why we love college basketball, it's a symphony of many different moving parts, from coaches to players, fans to the Grizz Gang, to new fans to the band to the DJ to Kevin Beers to the timeout games and the putts for tuition. We're all in this together. Was this a bad loss, YES! I don't want to hear about RPI again as this is now shot. Only way to the tourney now is to win the Horizon League tournament. If history is any indication and Kampe generally has his teams ready, except for last year's loss to UIC, but I digress, I want to judge this team at the end of the year, not now. As hard as that is. Now I sound like a GM of an NFL franchise when asked if the head coach will be fired. I want to see how this team responds to Valpo first and how well this team plays at Mercy (Can't forget UIC this Sunday-must win!). There are plenty of concerns now with Kampe shuffling lineups and where has Percy Gibson gone? He should be dominating. He and Brad last night looked lost and out of it. Expectations are set very high by Kampe himself and we are justified to constructively criticize when those expectations aren't met, but please don't think that the stakeholders of this program behind the scenes last night/today and moving forward are taking this loss lightly, they are probably taking it harder than we are, as hard as that is to believe. Review video, fix mistakes and PLAY OAKLAND BASKETBALL! It's a wake up call! How will this team respond over the next week? To be continued....... Well said Gary!!

Nonetheless, I hope we get some explanation of that final call. Morse (Flint) drove the lane, defense broke down, and he released the shot before the shot clock expired. It was ruled that the ball was out of the cylinder and Andrews tipped it in. Game over.

I looked over NCAA rules regarding what is reviewable - in that instance - it's just shot clock violations. So, while the ball may have been in the cylinder - a basket interference wasn't going to be called during that review. Rule 11 - Article 4. . The officials shall not use such available equipment for judgment calls such as: a Determine whether a foul occurred (Exceptions: A flagrant 2 foul.) b Determine whether basket interference or goaltending occurred www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25114503/goaltending-with-013-left-leads-ucla-to-upset-over-smuIs what it is -- gotta move past this - and let's be honest - this game should have never come down to this.

If my understanding of the rules regarding review is correct, they did not rule on the goaltending at all. They were allowed to review the shot clock violation and the time remaining after the tip. They cannot rule on goaltending so even if they saw goal tending, it was not called on the floor so the basket would still count.
The basket was waived off due to the call of shot clock violation not basket interference. It is a hole in the system.
I echo ougradbob, this game should have never come down to this. Honestly, I do not think I have ever seen a team for OU more disinterested in grabbing rebounds, statistics be damned. What I mean by that is far too often this season I have seen a rebound hit the floor with no OU player rushing to grab it, all waiting for someone else. This has often led to an offensive rebound for the opposing team. I have seen campy all over both Hayes and PG for this.
Lastly, I do not believe that Hill-Mais out played PG. They played the same minutes and yes, Hill-Mais out scored PG by 2, but PG doubled him in Rebounds and blocks. The strategy was to play the smaller lineup and it bit them. PG Had 4 points but 7 boards and 2 blocks in only 13 minutes. Kaufman was destroying Hayes in the second half. If PG replaces Hill-Mais that is Hayes rolling off of the screen and possibly in better position to contend a shot and it is PG boxing out Kaufman not Hayes who was giving up 5 inches and 40 pounds.

Yet they did I believe that how Toad explained it is correct. The basket was waived off because of a perceived shot clock violation (which is reviewable). In actuality - there was no shot clock violation. Clock Operator was slow resetting that shot clock after the ball hit rim. Count the basket - game over.

If you're not angry about that loss last night then I think you need to raise your expectations for this team. We aren't a D2 school anymore and we aren't in the Summit League. I've seen us go to three NCAA tournaments and I want to see a 4th and 5th with Kay Felder. We should be there. If you don't think that last night was a bad bad loss than you are behind the times. I do see your point, I really do, but at the same time, a loss like this one has been telegraphed in all of the three previous games. I don't know what happened, but we've been playing with a considerable lack of intensity and focus after the heartbreaker at MSU, and unless we turned it around, a loss like this one was going to happen. Maybe it wasn't going to be last night, maybe it could've been UIC on Sunday or NKU on the 19th, but as lethargic as we've been playing, it was going to happen. And "we should be there"? If we keep playing the way we have in the last four games, we absolutely don't belong there. It's hard to get upset by a bad loss when its just a symptom of a stretch of bad playing. I love OU basketball and I hope to hell we can pull it together, but I'm no more pissed off by this game than I was about Chicago St, Virginia, and Cleveland St. If the guys don't finally pick up on the lessons to be found in these games, this won't be the last time we have a terrible loss. Might as well get ready for it.

Until this thread I legit thought the basket was waived off because of a goal tend because shot clock didn't seem like an issue at all. I feel a little better about that now

You think you are all done getting out your feelings and purging your thoughts about Monday's game and then this comes out...
The latest from Terry Foster is pretty ugly. He paints a very vivid picture of what was going on in that locker room after the game.
Percy not asking to get back in the game (ouch - now you know why he got 13 minutes) and no bench support (which was very noticeable)
Max and Martez seemed to be the only 2 guys really cheering on the team while they were on the bench. I am not saying they need to be Monmouth - but at least get up and cheer, and shout out some encouragement while your teammates are battling. They just did not seem engaged.
Ok, I hope that's it.

Might as well get ready for it. Maybe I've just fallen victim to the preseason hype created by our own coach who has repeatedly stated that this is our most talented team ever. I'm holding this team to the 09-10 and 10-11 standard where they each lost one game in conference play and that was to iupui on the road which was also a top team. The bottom of the Horizon this year is no better than the bottom of the Summit was then so I can't accept that that team was playing in a different conference as an excuse. This was a home game to one of the worst teams in the conference. If we lose 2-3 games but those losses are to Valpo, Mercy, or Milwaukee, I can accept that as a reasonable loss. This was at home to YSU. Maybe I should just lower my standards and be happy that we have a winning record and maybe of we're lucky we can get another CIT bid again. I agree we have been playing in a funk and it did seem very likely that we were going to lose to a bad team, I guess I am just knee jerk reacting right now because I thought we were better than this. We have the Horizon player of the year and we were projected number 2 in the league and we are now 1-1 an we have played nothing but the bottom of the league. If we go out and beat Valpo Friday, my concerns will be lifted so I am really banking on us snapping out of our funk by then.
