You think you are all done getting out your feelings and purging your thoughts about Monday's game and then this comes out... The latest from Terry Foster is pretty ugly. He paints a very vivid picture of what was going on in that locker room after the game. Percy not asking to get back in the game (ouch - now you know why he got 13 minutes) and no bench support (which was very noticeable) Max and Martez seemed to be the only 2 guys really cheering on the team while they were on the bench. I am not saying they need to be Monmouth - but at least get up and cheer, and shout out some encouragement while your teammates are battling. They just did not seem engaged. Ok, I hope that's it. Love the insight provided from Terry's viewpoint but get ready to see some of those warts exposed with this insight. I won't call out any players I've seen do this but there is a sense of entitlement and when the coach is telling you that you aren't doing what's expected - don't talk back, roll eyes and walk away when coach is talking to you. What more can Oakland Athletics do for these guys? Fox Sports All-Access, ESPN platform (ESPN Top 10), local tv/radio, dedicated sports writers (Terry Foster), trip to Spain, 1st class travel, competitive national non-conference schedule, free school and a game at the Palace that was sold out. The leaders (Kay Felder and Sherron Dorsey-Walker) need to make a stand and show that poor play, pouting, and overall selfishness will not be tolerated. By the way, were captains ever nominated for this team 49? My three biggest concerns here are: 1) Kay's national /NBA attention and how that impacts his play and his teammates response to that publicity and how do they respond? 2) Immaturity. We've seen this mentioned before and a lot of these guys were "THE" guys in high school and recruited by high-majors and want to be treated like such. How do they respond to a "Kampe" system that is very methodical and orchestrated offensively? 3) Pouting. This makes no sense although we have to realize that these are 18-21 year old young men. How they deal with these basketball situations is how they'll deal with issues in the real working world. We need role models and mentors/leaders to say "This is Oakland basketball and this is how it will be done and you will stand in line and do what's expected!"

If we go out and beat Valpo Friday, my concerns will be lifted so I am really banking on us snapping out of our funk by then. Me too. I'm hoping this loss will do it (of course, I was also hoping that getting embarrassed by Virginia would do it too). The thing is, this is an incredibly talented team and we (and the team itself) should be disappointed that it got to this point. The chief difference between what you've been saying and what I've been saying is that I think the fact that we sort of saw it coming really blunted the knife that cut us last night. This group needs to figure out how to get back to being the team that dominated Washington and played MSU to a virtual stalemate. Hopefully, there's alot of soul-searching going down on campus today.

Also, don't think that the NBA/NBDL, Semi-pro leagues, Europe and Global leagues aren't watching what transpires here at Oakland with this team. How these players handle adversity and work with leadership to accomplish goals is something that is being monitored more than they may realize. If any have hopes of NBA, NBDL, Europe, etc. they'd better be aware that those owners, GM's and coaches are watching how this plays out. If basketball isn't a priority here for some of these players then I hope that degree will be put to good use. You'd be surprised at who's really paying attention to this team and if the players knew they'd probably make sure that they were competing at their highest levels and thinking team first. I hope the players expect more from themselves and their teammates because this team could be very special. The ball, figuratively speaking, is in their court. One game at a time, don't look ahead, everyone is a threat.

I know I saw some guys that looked like scouts at the game... Absolutely. Talent at this level is very competitive. Sometimes it's the intangibles that will separate players from getting professional contracts or not. Pouting and seemingly giving up on your team is not a trait I'd look for in my business. Scouts watch for the same things and look for a player that brings to the table the talent and skills necessary that will make their teams better. The players should act as if they owned a team and model the traits they would look for that will make a player and their team successful.

It's why I am so fond of a freshman with the initials XHM - He didn't pout when he didn't play for a few games in the middle of the Non Conference schedule - He took advantage of his opportunities and increased his playing time over the past 4-5 games. Definitely taking minutes away from others. BTW - Gary Mc and I play to have 5 stars next to our name by the end of the week.

Regardless of talent I say Kampe plays the most motivated and inspired players ready to do whatever it takes for Oakland to win a game. Reward good behavior. Make an example out of talent that isn't meeting expectations. I'm curious to see if we have a new starting lineup come Friday.

There will absolutely be a change in starting line up ---I would be SHOCKED if not.
I am very concerned with our match-up at 5.
If a freshman center from YSU can tear us up -- what a 5th or 6th year, 7ft senior from Valpo going to do to us?
We need to take care of the ball this time around, screw the no look, dipsy do dunk-a-roo passes. Get back to fundamentals.

I want to take a minute to applaud Terry Foster's unvarnished insider piece. It seems clear he has the license to write what he sees, even if Oakland U is his employer. Therefore, let me extend my appreciation to AD Jeff Konya and SID Scott MacDonald for hiring Terry and giving him carte blanche.
In the past, Terry has made guest appearances in our sports reporting course, and the students always benefit from his thoughtful insights and career advice.

My guess is that we'll see a steady stream of Hayes, Big Brad, XHM and possibly Femi. Although I do hope Percy Gibson wants to play and is ready to be productive.
