I want to take a minute to applaud Terry Foster's unvarnished insider piece. It seems clear he has the license to write what he sees, even if Oakland U is his employer. Therefore, let me extend my appreciation to AD Jeff Konya and SID Scott MacDonald for hiring Terry and giving him carte blanche. In the past, Terry has made guest appearances in our sports reporting course, and the students always benefit from his thoughtful insights and career advice. Awesome insight Garry. Totally agree that reporting the truth gives an air of transparency that die-hards crave. This move to have Terry provide inside coverage is amazing.

Sorry G Mc - I got nothing left - It's just the dry heaves at this point.

There will absolutely be a change in starting line up ---I would be SHOCKED if not. I am very concerned with our match-up at 5. If a freshman center from YSU can tear us up -- what a 5th or 6th year, 7ft senior from Valpo going to do to us? We need to take care of the ball this time around, screw the no look, dipsy do dunk-a-roo passes. Get back to fundamentals. My guess is that we'll see a steady stream of Hayes, Big Brad, XHM and possibly Femi. Although I do hope Percy Gibson wants to play and is ready to be productive. Wait -- I missed this post. As for Femi - I hope he gets another shot and takes advantage of it. Saw way too many great things from him early in his freshman year. I know he has the potential. Probably has the freshest legs on the team right now. We need everyone to show up --- Ok, I'm done.

Ugh... I have been avoiding the forum all day.
On the last play, the original shot was taken before the shot clock and the tip occurred prior to the game clock expiring. The ref inadvertently blew the whistle because he's an idiot. I'm not sure if he blew the whistle before that fat center tipped it in or not.
There wasn't a good replay of whether or not it was a goaltend.
Nevermind, I saw that Gary already explained this. Somehow I missed the last 2 pages of this thread.

I just want to add a few points ...
1. Right now there is little advantage to playing in the O'Rena. It's not a hostile environment for visiting teams at all. I have been to 124 games in the O'Rena (thank you basketball passport) and our fans have stood for a run/defensive stand 0 times (I'm talking about standing outside of the last minute of the game). I have been to 6 MSU games (5 vs OU) and their fans got on their feet and cheered 3 - 5 times each of the 6 games. Anyone who thinks the O'Rena is a hostile environment for visiting teams has never seen a college basketball game. Is the O'Rena better than some mid-major environments? Yes. But it's not at the level it could be.
2. Kampe has said a number of times that this is the most talented team he has ever had. I have always had very high expectations for our program, but that comment took my expectations to the next level. Not getting the 1st or 2nd seed and not going to the ncaa tournament is a failed season. Is anyone else proud of the stat in the pregame video that says we have been to the ncaa tournament 3 out of the last 11 years?
3. The Terry Foster Insiders are very good. Hiring Foster was a great move.
4. I'm nervous about Friday. It's a very big game. I hope the team comes to play and the fans come to cheer. Have we ever had an ESPN2 game in the O'Rena?
5. I can't believe I am saying this, but I'll be rooting for Mercy College when they play Valpo on Sunday.
Just to add one more thing. I think the improvements made in the O'Rena are great (black top, lights, sound system, etc.). Looking forward to the future improvements that were announced.

Agreed, biglew. During MSU's second-half run against our guys at The Palace, the noise from the Green and White-clad fans was literally painful to my ears.
In the past, Coach Kampe has pointed out that the low ceiling in the O'rena traps noise — and makes our court a hostile place when the O is full and we're playing Detroit Mercy.
But too many of our adult fans seem to think they're at the opera. They look at me like I'm Beethoven when I urge them to get up and make noise during a Grizzlies run.
I also have to say that I am dumbfounded when fans wander down the aisles to find their seats during game action. Wait for a stoppage in play, people. Don't obstruct the views of the fans who got to their seats on time. It's a very short walk.
OK, I'm done.

I believe the expectation realistically is to consistently have a top 4 Horizon League regular season finish competing in the HL tourney championship game each year. Coach does set high expectations and is great at marketing the team but I'll judge this season when it's over, not now. I did like the announcement better when it said they've been to the NCAA tourney 3 out of the last 6 years. Glass half full here is that Northwestern has NEVER been to the NCAA tourney. As for ESPN2, I believe the Tennessee game was on ESPN2 a few years ago.

I agree with everyone that it would be nice to get more people cheering and making the "O" a lot more hostile. Amazing that the program has complied the type of home record since the building opened.

That is great! Looking for 4k+ for this Friday, no empty areas and a loud and wild crowd! National TV with the blacktop is going to look awesome! Would also love to fill all of the area that's considered standing room only too. Friday's weather should be ok, high in the low 40's/high 30's with some rain. Pack this place! Make it happen!

It starts with all of us. Most of us I think are season ticket holders or at least attend most games. Everyone of us on this fan board needs to stand for the fight song and stand/cheer on a run or defensive stand.
